I was trying to understand what this could mean?

Evet arkadaşlarım ve Amerikalı, Kanadalı ama kimseyle yazışamıyorum aslında.

Could it be: Yes, I have American friends but actually I can´t correspond with the Canadian ones.

OR: Yes my friends are American and Canadian but I can´t correspond with anyone actually.

Did you want to check something? T to E?

my thoughts

anlamaya çalışıyordum = I was trying to understand

anlam =meaning

anlama gelmek = to have that meaning, (to come to that meaning)

so I guess the English translation might be ....

I was trying to understand what the meaning is?

........... whoops {#emotions_dlg.shy}

That´s what you translated. Jeton düştü.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

 Jeton düştü.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

the word "jeton" in the idiom refers to "telefon jetonu"

you insert the "jeton" in the coin slot and it falls down somewhere into the phone making a sharp click sound and then you hear the dialing tone that means the phone is ready to operate. This is called "jeton düştü"

you know, sometimes something goes wrong and the jeton doesn´t work.. you have to reinsert it.. and this is called "jeton düşmedi" Wink

My old Turkish teacher used this expression whenever someone realised a grammar point. It is like the English expression "The penny dropped".

Pay-phones took pennies for payment years ago. Tokens or jetons were also used for the ferries when I first visited Istanbul in 1990.
