Hi everyone.

I have a question.

Üç Lira mi? = "is it three lira?"

In the above sentence, where´s "is it?"

When asking such questions, we don´t use "it is"?

Both are implied. It takes time to get used to. It´s not mandatory to state the subject (i.e. it). and with to be, he/she/it has no suffix.

This is a full sentence:

Komik.

Means He/She is funny.

It´s right there.

"mi" is called question particle.

üç lira = it´s 3 liras

üç lira ? = is it 3 liras?

we dont alter the words to make it question. just add "mı/mi/mu/mü" question particle.

more:

geldi = s/he has come

geldi mi? = has s/he come?

I think it´s easier. for example when you ask something to confirm what you say:

geldi, değil mi? = s/he has come, hasn´t s/he?

gelmedi, değil mi? = s/he has not come yet, has s/he?

üç lira, değil mi? = it´s 3 liras, isn´t it?

...

in English you change the second part depending on the sentence. in Turkish just a "değil mi?" is enough.

Hi everyone,

You enter a cafe and say

çay var mı?

Does it mean:

 " do you have tea"?

Or

Is there tea?
