MUTLULUK ÜZERİNE

Mutluluk nedir? Bu konuda sayılamayacak kadar çok yorum yapılmıştır.

Bilim insanlarına göre mutluluk, beynin bir fonksiyonudur. Düşünceler yumağında oluşur. Konuyu daha da açacak olursak: mutluluk veya onun karşıtı olan mutsuzluk : geçmişte yaşanmış olan her türlü olaylar ile geleceğe ilişkin her türlü beklenti, hayal, endişe ve korkuların detay ve boyutlarından kaynaklanır.

Dikkat edilirse: çocuklar hep mutludurlar: çünkü onların geçmiş deneyimleri ile  geleceğe ilişkin beklentileri ve hayalleri yoktur. Hep bir anı yaşarlar ve bu yüzden de mutludurlar.

Bir Çinli bilge şöyle der: Geçmişinizi, bugününüze getirmeyin: yoksa gününüzü bozarsınız;  çünkü hayatın koşulları o zaman başkaydı, bugün ise daha farklı…Her şey, içinde bulunulan koşulların ürünüdür.

Arapçada bir derviş deyişi vardır : La rahate fi-d- dünya ( Dünyada rahatlık yoktur.)

Mutluluk konusu ne kadar derinlemesine genişletilse, bu konunun tanımında o kadar az yol alınırmış.

Konuyu şu kelimelerle toparlayanlar var:

“Güzel düşünce, güzel kelimelerle konuşma, iyi niyet ve güzel davranış mutluluktur.” Kur’an-ı Kerim’de bunu ifade eden ayetler var.

Eski insanların bir deyişini de burada belirtelim  “İnsanın tatlı dilinden başka güzel nesi var?”

Meçhul bir bilge de bu konuyu şöyle özetlemiş : “İnsan biraz kalender olmalı! Çünkü geçmiş olmuş bitmiştir ve zaman denilen olgu hep ileriye doğru işler. Yarın diye bir şey yoktur. Gelecek denilen şey ise,  yaşadığımız şu andır.”

What is happiness? Unimaginable times this subject has been covered.

According to scientists, it´s a function of the brain. If we are to open the subject further: happiness and it´s opposite unhappiness: whatever we have experienced in the past and those that are to come related to details our dreams, anxieties, fears stir us considerably.

I´ll do the rest later for you.

Upon paying closer attention one will notice that: children are in perpetual happiness, the reason for this is that their experience doesn´t pertain to expectations nor dreams. They live in the moment and that´s why they are happy.

A wise Chinese saying goes: Don´t bring forth your past to the present: otherwise your present day maybe spoilt; conditions of your yester years were much different to your present...Everthing is found within the condition life-cycle.

Note: not sure if I have the last sentence spot-on. I mean this one:

In Arabic there is a dervish saying: La rahate fi-d-dünya (In this world there is no rest)

As to the topic of hapiness, no matter how deep you examine it, the subject´s scope hasn´t tread enough resentful roads.

Those who have gathered it´s encompassing words say this about it:

I was a little shakey with translating:

bu konunun tanımında o kadar az yol alınırmış.

Perhaps someone else could look into that. I think I was trying to give a literal translation there as much as possible. However on secoond thought I could say it no literal and just capture its meaning by saying:

The subject hasn´t been done justice no matter how many enquiries one delves into, it´s road would still demand more and wouldn´t resent it one bit.

"Good thoughts, good spoken words, good will and good conduct is happiness". The Koran makes mention of this in it´s verses.

Let´s finish old forebears phrases with "What can better than a sweet tongue"?

One uknown wiseman summarized: "People ought to be a bit like a calendar! Because the past is the past and time propels events forward always. There is no such thing as tomorrow. If there is any truth then its this moment.

Comment: I struggled with

1. zaman denilen olgu hep ileriye doğru işler.

2. Gelecek denilen şey ise,  yaşadığımız şu andır.”

So I may not have those spot-on. Perhaps someone else can improve that? Anyone? Anyway, I finished the lot for you, enjoy, gürüşürüz.

Hello! I hope I´m not too late with this. Overall I think Leo S´s translation is good enough, so I´ll just chip in with my translation for the sentences he mentioned having struggled with.

"Her şey, içinde bulunulan koşulların ürünüdür."

Everything is the result of your circumstances.

"Mutluluk konusu ne kadar derinlemesine genişletilse, bu konunun tanımında o kadar az yol alınırmış."

It is said that the further the topic of happiness is expanded upon, the slower its definition will progress.

Please note that I used "slower" here instead of "less", which would´ve been the literal translation, but I feel like this flows a little better.

"Çünkü geçmiş olmuş bitmiştir ve zaman denilen olgu hep ileri doğru işler."

Because the past is in the past and the phenomenon called time ever moves forward.

"Gelecek denilen şey ise, yaşadığımız şu andır."

And the thing called future is this very moment.

There´s also this sentence he skipped: "Düşünceler yumağında oluşur." This is a bit vague and can be understood in two really different ways. But I believe this is the intended meaning:

It takes form within the cradle of thoughts.

The other possible meaning:

Thoughts take form within its cradle.

I took a liberty here and changed "yumak", which means "ball", into "cradle". The meaning is more or less the same and it makes sense in English as well.

And lastly, I´d like to touch upon the last sentence a little.

Let´s state a phrase of our forebears, "What can be better than a sweet tongue"?
