can someone explain why -mış oldum used here?in which conditions we can use it?

There is not much difference between the two. ´-miş oldum´ emphazises the action. 

It is safer for new learners to use  ´-dim´ as  ´miş oldum´ does not always replace ´-dim´.

It is emphasised form of past tense or present perfect tense. When a deed came/has come true, we use "-mış oldu", and past tense can be used, as well.  The most significant feature that this tense has is that it is used when you want to point out that an action took/has taken place.

Along with this, you make a sentence which is in future perfect tense(will have done). When this sentence comes/came/have come true, you can use -mış oldu. 

And it can mean "in the end" in the sentence. 

Some examples that we use in daily life:

Sonunda yeni yıla girmiş olduk.

Sonunda seni de görmüş oldu.

-mış also used to form participles from verbs.

uyan+mış => awakened

that´s why (since it´s no more a verb) it needs the verb ol-  to form a sentence.

uyanmış oldum => I became awakened (or in other words, uyandım) 

anlaşılmış oldu => it became understood (=> anlaşıldı)

şaşırmış olacaksın => you will become surprised (=> şaşıracaksın)

kırılmış oldu => it became broken (or kırıldı => it broke)

bozulmuş olur => it becomes broken (or bozulur => it breaks) 

Tükçe de -mış eki çoğunlukla söylenilen durumu başkasından öğrenildiği anlamına gelir. 

Yani buradaki cümlede 12 saat uyuduğunu başkası ona anlatmış gibi hikayeleştirmeye çalışmış. Aslında 12 saat uyuyan kendisi fakat anlatırken sanki başkasından duymuş gibi söylemiş.
