Hello!

I know the general meaning of the phrase, afiet olsen, is bon appetit, but I'm wondering how I might phrase that in English rather than French? Plus...am I spelling the phrase correctly? I've looked up the words in your online dictionary and neither afiet or olsen came up.

English-speaking folk use the same french saying. There's no such word in English for it. I suppose the best you can say is "I hope you enjoyed your food" or if you're eating someone's cooking, you can say "This looks delicious Mrs. so-and-so" ..

usage in context;

Person 1: I am going for my luch, do you want anything from the cafe,
Person 2: No, thank you, Sana afiyet olsun. (like I hope you enjoy your food,)


another one;

you see your friend/s having their breakfast/lunch/dinner, you can say "afiyet olsun" (like I hope you enjoy your food)

another one;
you had dinner in your friend's house and you thanked the cook for the dinner, s/he says "afiyet olsun" (like I hope you enjoyed your food,)

basically we use it before food, during food, after food to wish they enjoy the food.
French just uses it before food,I asked a french guy

In american restuarants after serving a meal the waiter says: "Enjoy your meal". Same we use at home. After serving a meal the host always wishes: " Enjoy your meal"
