according to me, hiç refers to daha önce.. hiç means before in this sentence and if u use the words which are given same meanings is not suitable in turkish..
so "hiç kız arkadaşın oldu mu is" better...
i could be wrong but this is my idea...

I think I put : önce hiç ingiliz kız arkadaşın .....or something like that! he understood in the end at least. I tried to do it myself, and that is what I came up with.....you know what they say....you learn by your mistakes

i wanted to say; english question form could be different from turkish's coz of meaning.. have u ever had a gf before.. daha önce hiç kız arkadaşın oldu mu but in turkish we can translate "hiç kız arkadaşın oldu mu?"..if we add "daha önce" there is a grammer rule error.. we call it "expression error"...
turkish words are so elastic...

I think I must have said " do you have any English girlfriends now" as the first answer I got pointed in that direction. So I asked again in another way....I got there in the end.
Thank you
