I translated it literally but can you tell me what exactly do you mean?I ve never heard this expression what are you refering to?

I never heard it before either. It came from one of my book club colleagues where we discuss philosophy, politics, etc.. a few times a month. When I shared with him about Turkey and Omer, he gave me this quote to ponder.

We were discussing "reality" and "illusion" as concepts, and he came up with this brilliant metaphor. Basically it means, our actions (which come from our wishes and beliefs) create a tangible reality that we viscerally perceive as truth.

For example, if I believe I am in love, I will act accordingly, present myself in a pretty manner, say loving sweet things, exude great confidence and charm, and my lover will do the same- and we can be sure we are "in love". But are we really? Time and proximity has a way of chiseling away at illusion.

It may "look, feel and taste like love.." but it may also be a projection of wishes...

Does that make any sense?

I guess another way to think of it- do actions reflect beliefs and wishes and thus creat a false sense of "reality", Or does what is real and true guide our actions?

Deciphering between the real and illusion/wishes is the challenge... I think we must separate desire from this process, because it causes distortion.

I guess both theories make sense? And maybe they both happen according to the person or the situation?

Anyway it's not late at night and we don't have a glass of wine and I'm not really a philosopher either

I have been dicussing this quote endlessly today. Outside of love, it has a deep political connotation- not for this site, but fodder to think about in terms of our present world...
