I was no huge fan of Steve Irwin, but todays news that he was sadly killed this morning at the age of 44 is so devastating... he was the nicest person on tv ... and a great family man.
HE DIED DOING WHAT HE LOVED TO DO... MY HEART GOES OUT TO HIS YOUNG FAMILY... WIFE AND CHILDREN ...

I for one am very sad to hear the news. I was always glued to the TV when he was on. I loved his sense of adventure and when you dice with death regularly as he did, then one day it will happen.
My heart goes out to his wife and young family.

I agree it's sad, but also I think its kind of inevitable really. He risked his (and his children's!) lives on many occasions, and unfortunately, nature is never predictable. What happened to him was very rare and strange. The only possible explanation for his heart to be pierced by a stingray, must have been because he was holding it up in front of him with both hands. The stingray must have naturally thought it was under attack and struck .
