Daydreamer you right - we have hard work and life but we always may remember about it:

"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”

for all teachers

When we have a holiday in Dutch schools, we actually have holiday. No extra jobs or anything of the sort.
But of course there is some pre-reading and things like that to be done..

(And there are always teachers giving remedial teaching during the summer holidays I guess!)

When I have a holiday from my teaching job in England I go to Turkia. Maybe I should see if I can get a holiday job in Turkia.

Hi fellow teachers!

I am a teacher. I recently moved from Germany to America and know that German teachers do not take summer jobs. They work hard during the school year and would never consider giving up their free time in order to make extra money! They are just very good savers and plan ahead..to include vacations when NOT working.

In the USA, many teachers travel, getting scholarships as a previous member wrote. Most of the time second jobs might only entail teaching a summer school for the the system you work for, but usually only a few teachers are needed for that!

Teaching is a hard profession! It requires alot of time, energy and preparation, but the rewards are great!

Have you considered that in other countries it may sometimes not be a matter of choice? That all teachers, and in addition everyone working person, would like nothing more than not having to take an extra job and just enjoy a couple of weeks of peace and quiet? Working hard is not always a guarantee for a summer off.
