Hi all

I don't know if this information has already been shared or not but I thought it would be nice to find out why we are all so keen to learn Turkish.

I first went to Turkey in 97 with my familly to Hisaronu near Fethiye. I have been going every year since although I have been visiting Icmeler since my mam moved there in 2001. Well this year I met a guy and so have finally got off my lazy ass to learn Turkish.

I had talked about doing it for years and as a language teacher really had no excuses. I found that this summer with a little effort I could understand more than I could say and so am now very keen to improve.

So what about you lot? What's your story?

Flora

Merhaba Flora79. I am learning Turkish because of course I fell in love with a Turkish man. I met him in the US a litle over a year ago and I have visited Turkey twice since then and I am returning in December. While he speaks English fairly well, I would like to communicate better with his family. They are so lovely and even though we don't understand each other fully, we still have a good time together and somehow work things out. (Along with his help too) But I want to learn Turkish also out of respect. I don't want to force everyone to make accomodations for me, so I am trying my best to learn. I have met some helpful people on this site and I am enjoying talking with them. I love to talk and meet with people from different cultures and learn new things. This is all so interesting and fun. Good luck to you and thank you for asking this great question.

hoşÃ§akal,
Wendy (lovebug)

Little more than a year ago I found this lovely site by chance. Was looking to find site where I can learn bulgarian to communicate with friends. When I saw the pictures of Istanbul I forgot about bulgarian.
After a while when I made all my wonderful friends here, not only turkish of course, I started to teach myself this wonderful language. I feel like maybe I was a Turkish in one of my previous lives(don't laugh, please) because I know so many things about Turkish. It surprises me all the time.
There is no romance as I said but feel this great love toward all my friends and this makes me impatient to learn melodic Turkish to undersdtand all the poems I read and all the songs I hear. I hope one day I will be fluent to talk to my friends in their own language even though they all know english very well.
And you are right we have great family of friends here. They are ready to help us without asking anything in return and we have to get that opportunity and learn.
I would say we learn not only language .
I want to say "Thank you!" to all my friends here and one more time tell them how lucky I feel to have them all in my life.

Burada yaşam için de arkadaşlık kuruyoruz.
