Turkish Hospital

I just spoke to Omer, and he is so sick. He phoned and was too sick to go to the Internet cafe. He said tomorrow he will go to the hospital. He's been coughing for three weeks now, and he is so weak. I'm really worried. Here, we go to the doctor's office when we are sick, and the hospital is only for serious emergencies.

Do people go to the hospital to see a doctor in Turkey, or is it just serious emergencies? I can't understand why he is not going to the doctor's office.

Also, is it very expensive to see a doctor, or is there general health care provided by the government. As he works seasonal jobs, I doubt he has health insurance.

Any information would be so welcomed to ease my mind.
thank you,
Christine

it is expensive to go doctor office.we called it private examination.if he has general health care provided by goverment he prefer to go hospitals.coz going hospital will be cheap or free to him. doctors work from 09.00 to 15.00 o'clock at hospital and from 15.00 they go to their office.
not everybody has general health care in turkiye. any question?

Hi Christine,

From what we experienced last year, is that there was a doctor who came to us when we felt ill.. This was our hotel doctor, but I think that he also had his own place where he received ill people.
But I think you can also go to the hospital for it. In the hospital where we've been (in Alanya and Konya) there were also 'normal' doctors for less serious injuries.

Don't worry too much! Everyone gets ill sometimes, and he probably knows the best thing to do himself, he's a citizen of Turkey right?!

Take care

Thank you Tirrogan for explaining. I understand better. I'm relieved regular doctors work at the hospital, and it's not an emergency.

Yes Chantal, he knows what he's doing, it's just frustrating for me when I don't know. I'm sure he'll be fine. He says he's sick because the airconditioning is freezing cold where he works.

oh- it's so hard to be so far away....
