Hello Melissa,
You can choose Cingular.I have it and can send text messages to Turkey. There is a charge for it of course. In calls - 10 cents, and out calls for 20 cents. You can get the service then it wil be not very expensive.I think 4-5 dollars a month.I can't do it because do not have that contract but you can get it if you are gonna get new service with Cingular.

Hi, Melissa!
You can also try T-Mobile. For $4.99 a month additionally you have 400 text messages( incoming and outcoming altogether. They also have an option for 600 messages but I don't remeber what was the fee for that one.
