If you want to visit Turkey, please be careful about the hotels. Today I watched in a Turkish TV how a Tukish hotel copied their tourist clients' credit card information and stole their money. I think if you choose a good hotel, you will not have a problem. That does not mean all the small hotels do that crime. But please be careful because some people do not work ethic in Turkey.

I think this can happen anywhere - I know it happens in some English restaurants - so not just a problem in Turkey although thanks for the warning

Very true! Luckily credit card companies are quite savvie now. I always tell my credit card company when I go abroad and also give them the exact dates of my trip. This way they know to refuse any payments after that date.
Even if the payment goes ahead, you only have to call them as soon as you see a suspicious debit and they will cancel it.

I know it happens everywhere but it has been becoming very common in Turkish holiday resorts. Even as a Turkish person, I was deceived several times by taxi-drivers. I should say that we , Turks ( not all) , do not have a capilatist ethic in western sense thus the only motive is to make money. A deeper sociological analysis can found in other places My aim was just to warn.

Sorry if you got the wrong impression and sincerely thank you for the warning Kadersokak .
I was just keen to not paint Turks as the ONLY people who do this . I always keep a close check on mine. As far as I am concerned, if someone DOES steal money from my card at least I dont suffer - its the credit card companies which lose out!! I have no pity for THEM! However, I know that some cards do not have this kind of cover and it is the customers themselves who lose out.
I think another important warning regarding hotels is regarding their "security" deposit. Many hotels will take a tracing of your card and keep it as security against damage or non-payment. When you check out of the hotel it is VERY IMPORTANT to ask the Receptionist for their copy of your card as you leave. Many people forget to do this.

True story. At one hotel when I left I used my credit card to pay. I went to Kusadasi and got on-line to check my statement. I discovered that my credit card had been charged 9 times. So I ended up paying $450.00US dollars for a cheap hotel. I asked someone from the resort I was at to call the hotel. The owner of the previous hotel told the man, too bad for her but we are not going to reverse any charges. As I am extremely feisty and not going to let somebody get over on me, I traveled back to the previous city by bus, used my dictionary and got to the Police Station near the hotel. Where a CUTE, but married, head of the entire station officer, took me into his office fed be cookies and ordered me several glasses of tea until the hotel owner was hauled into the station,by police who went to the hotel to get him, made to profusely apologize and return ALL of my money. I think that was a run on sentence you grammar freaks! Point, if it happens justice is readily available in Turkey. Oh, I printed out the 9 charges from the internet and still had my receipt from the hotel showing the actual amount I agreed to pay. I left with a huge smile and the look of fear and surprise in the hotel owner's eyes was the best payback ever. That's what he gets for thinking he could take advantage of a single girl traveling alone!!!
