The Ecumenical Patriarchate is the highest see and holiest center of the Orthodox Christian Church throughout the world. Since 1586 the Ecumenical Patriarchate has its headquarters in the relatively modest Church of St George in the Fener district of Istanbul. The Patriarchate has been moved to the building where it is located today in the 17th century where there was a beautiful wooden women monastery at that placed that was renovated and can be seen as a neighbor building of the church.
