Quoting Deli_kizin: FF, I am well aware that Kazachstan is not in the Middle-East, it was one of the first things I protested about in college Post-Sviet central asia looks fixed on the map but is ambiguous in practice. But we actually study both Middle-East and Central Asia then they pointed out nicely that when we look from socio-geopolitics, Kazachstan sometimes can be in both spheres.
|
you sound better today therefore i ll just spare your life
Quoting Deli_kizin:
Actually many writers speak of 'Central Asia and Kazachstan', instead of putting it in one of the two
|
good girl! i knew i could count on your wisdom!
our nationalist (oops sorry) patriotic teachers would teach us the same. one of my teacher would tell us a story of a kazakh soldier prisoned by germans during WWI, when they wanted to torture him, they would call him : 'you asian!', to what he replied with his pride in his voice 'im not asian, im kazakh! '
Quoting Deli_kizin:
As for Almatay, the Slavic population, including russians, live in the northern oblast regions, were the capital was replaced, moved so that it would be closer to the centre of population and show unity of the country (since Kazachs form less than a majority of Kazachstan). Alma-ata got changed into Almaty, so that it matched the Kazakh-language rules.
|
hehehe, what does the slavic nations have to do with changing the capital?
the initial reason the president offered the idea of moving the capital was to keep a bit away from china
Quoting Deli_kizin:

Quoting Deli_kizin: Actually I have heard the national anthem of Kazachstan once In my class in Turkey there were many people from Kazachstan, and we all made presentations about their own country. To be honest they were rather naitonalistic and made the biggest presentation of all students They ended it with standing up alltogether and singng the national anthem |
