So you’ve visited Turkey and fallen in love with the country... it’s not surprising, it certainly has a lot to recommend it! You’ve decided to take the plunge and buy a house in your favourite little Turkish town (or city!) and really change your life. Whether it’s a holiday home, an investment or part of your plan to emigrate to a warmer, hotter and welcoming country, the same rules apply. Here we’ll guide you through the maze of property buying in Turkey.
The good news is that most foreigners can buy a house in Turkey and enjoy exactly the same property rights as Turkish citizens. The law allowing the sale of property to foreigners was temporarily suspended in April 2008, but was rescinded in July of the same year. Hurrah!
Foreign nationals can now buy property in Turkey if they are from countries with reciprocal agreements – any foreign national whose home country allows property ownership for Turkish nationals, for instance, can buy property in Turkey.
