Hint: ClearType for Windows XP

If you are using Windows XP, you can use the ClearType technique for fonts which makes fonts in your computer more clear and easier to read. Cleartype is actually designed for LCD (flat panel) monitors, but it improves text display also in regular CRT monitors. It is easy to try, you can turn it off if you don´t like anyway. You can turn ClearType on following these steps:

  • Right click on your desktop and select Properties.
  • In the display properties window that will open, select the Appearance tab. In the Appearance tab, click on the Effects... button. In the Effects window that will open, the second from the top is a check box and drop-down box with the title ´Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts´. Check this check box and select ClearType in the drop-down box. Keep clicking OK in the windows we opened and feel the difference in the text quality you see on your monitor.
