Etmeyi vs etmek

Herkese Merhaba,

I want to continue school while I am unemployed
Işsizken okula devam etmeyi istiyorum

Is it wrong to say (and if so why):
Işsizken okula devam etmek istiyorum

It´s correct and actually I would translate that English sentence exactly like that.

 

The first one though correct would be seen much less than that. The first one may mean that you prefer that activity to some other activity.
