The compound tenses are done adding extra verbs to the already conjugated verb. Let´s start with the present continuous.
A) PAST CONTINIOUS
*These types are preferred much more than the other. Otherwise there is no meaning difference. Just shape is different.
gelmek (to come)
gel+yor+- geliyor (he is coming)
gel+yor+- idi+- geliyor idi (he was coming)
gel+me+yor+- gelmiyor (he isn´t coming)
gel+me+yor+- idi+- gelmiyor idi (he wasn´t coming)
We usually prefer to add as suffix. Therefore: geliyordu (he was coming) gelmiyordu (he wasn´t coming)
geliyor mu idi--->geliyor muydu? (was he coming?) gelmiyor mu idi->gelmiyor muydu? (wasn´t he coming?)
Conjugations of the verbs "gelmek" (to come), "uyumak" (to sleep) and "açıklamak" (to explain), "yardım etmek" (to help).
televizyon (the television) izlemek, seyretmek (to watch) telefon (the telephone) çalmak (1to steal, 2to play (by a musical enstrument), 3to ring (doorbell, telephone), 4...5...)
izle+yor idi+m ---------->izliyor idim------>izliyordum (i was watching) çal+di+- -------------------------------->çaldı (it rang)
Televizyon izliyordum, telefon çaldı. (I was watching television, the phone rang)
içeri, içerisi (the inside) gürültülü (noisy) anlamak (to understand) şimdi (now) tekrar, bir daha, yine, yeniden (again) söylemek (to say, to tell)
gürültülü idi-------------------------------->gürültülüydü (it was noisy) anla+ma+yor idi+m----->anlamıyor idim------>anlamıyordum (i didn´t understand (direct: i wasn´t understanding)) söyle+- ------------------------------------>söyle (say)
İçeri gürültülüydü, ne dediğini anlamıyordum. Şimdi tekrar söyle. (The inside was noisy, I didn´t understand what you said. Say again now.)
o (he ,she ,it (as personal pronouns)) eskiden (in the past, formerly) hiç (never) sevmek (1to love, 2to like)
o+i(accusative)-------------------------->onu (him, her, it) sev+me+yor idi+k--->sevmiyor idik-------->sevmiyorduk (we weren´t loving)
Onu eskiden hiç sevmiyorduk. (We never used to like him formerly (direct: We were never liking him formerly))
ne (what) ilginç (interesting) dün (yesterday) yağmur (the rain) yağmak (to fall from the sky (meteorologically)) bugün (today) hava (1the weather, 2the air, 3the sky, ................) günlük güneşlik (fully sunny, completely sunny)
ne ilginç! (how interesting!) yağ+yor idi+ - ----------->yağıyor idi------------->yağıyordu (it was raining)
Ne ilginç! Dün yağmur yağıyordu; bugün hava günlük güneşlik. (How interesting! It was raining yesterday, the weather is fully sunny today.)
ödev (homework) yapmak (to do) ne (what) çabuk (quickly) bitmek (1to finish (intransitive), 2to end, to end up, 3.....4...5..)
yap+ma+yor mi+idi+n ----> yapmıyor muydun? (weren´t you doing?) bit+di--------------------> bitti. (it finished)
Ödev yapmıyor muydun? Ne çabuk bitti? (Weren´t you doing homework? How quickly did it finish?)
siz (you (2nd plural)) biz (we) yardım etmek (to help) şimdi (now) de/da (also, too)
siz+e(dative)------------------------>size (to you) biz+e(dative)------------------------>bize (to us) yardım et+yor mu+idi+niz------------->yardım ediyor muydunuz? (were you helping?) yardım et+me+ecek+iz----------------->yardım etmeyeceğiz (we won´t help)
Siz bize yardım ediyor muydunuz? Şimdi de biz size yardım etmeyeceğiz. (Were you helping us? Now we aren´t going to help you, too)
demin, az önce (too short time ago (according to this moment), just a moment ago) çizgi film (the cartoon movie) izlemek, seyretmek (to watch) yanlış (false, wrong) görmek (to see)
izle+me+yor+lar idi----------->izlemiyorlar idi---->izlemiyorlardı (they weren´t watching) uyu+yor+lar idi-------------->uyuyorlar idi------>uyuyorlardı (they were sleeping) gör+miş+sin------------------------------------>görmüşsün
Demin çizgi film izlemiyorlardı, yanlış görmüşsün. (They weren´t watching cartoon a moment ago, you have seen false.)
sınav (the exam) ertelemek (to delay, to put off) bilmek (to know)
ertelen+miş---------------------------->ertelenmiş bil+yor mi+idi+niz----------------------->biliyor muydunuz? (did you know? (direct: were you knowing?))
Sınav ertelenmiş, biliyor muydunuz? (The exam has been delayed, did you know?) |
