Arabs shocked by Obama speech

Barack Obama said he spoke as a
"true friend" of Israel [EPA]

Arab leaders have reacted with anger and disbelief to an intensely pro-Israeli speech delivered by Barack Obama, the US Democratic presumptive presidential nominee.

Obama told the influential annual policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Council (Aipac): "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided."

The Marmaray Project will dramatically improve the environment in the city of Istanbul. It is a fact that the capacity of the Project to move people from one place to another will be ten to twelve times as high as the capacity of one bridge crossing the Istanbul Strait. This means that the increasing problems related to road congestion in the old city can be reduced, as can the increasingly adverse effects on the environment of Istanbul.

There are many old houses of historical value in Istanbul. The Marmaray Project has been planned in such a way that only a very limited number of houses will be affected by the construction works. In each case, a preservation plan will be prepared and the house will either be protected, moved to another position or a replica will be constructed.
However, during construction of the Project, it will not be possible to avoid affecting some of the old historical buildings, nor will it be possible to avoid undertaking some deep excavations for the new stations

Imagine kids asking to go to the dentist. A first for Turkey, these two new pediatric dental clinics focus on having fun with patients and avoiding the drill. And local, free health care for women and kids offers screenings and treatment by qualified staff drawn to better pay in a more personal setting.

Thread: Turkish court to rule on headscarf law

Turkey's top court convened Thursday to decide whether to cancel a law allowing women to wear Islamic headscarves in universities, a ruling that could set off a chain reaction for the Islamist rooted governing party and prime minister.

The law, pushed through by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), is part of a separate case that seeks to ban the party on charges that it is covertly seeking to replace the secular order with an Islamist regime.

If the Constitutional Court rules against the government on the headscarf change, it could be an indication that it will also go against the AKP when it rules on whether to ban the party and bar 71 members, among them Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, from politics, observers say.

It was not immediately clear whether the court would issue a verdict Thursday as the headscarf change is just one of several items to be discussed in the session.

Honor Killing Victim Wanted to Live Like other German Girls

At age 16, all Morsal Obeidi wanted was to live the way other girls in Germany do. She paid dearly: Obeidi's brother stabbed her 20 times. Her murder has sparked a renewed debate in Germany about the failure of many immigrant families to integrate into Western society.

Morsal is buried one week after her death. In the morning, the women wash the body, cleansing it of its earthly sins, in keeping with tradition.

The teenage girl's thin body is covered with stab wounds, evidence of the knife that was plunged into her torso. The women wrap the body in linen and lay it into a coffin made of a light-colored wood.
