brief comment: a succinct statement expressing an opinion or a general truth. its actually a noun.
while metaphor
1. implicit comparison: the use to describe somebody or something of a word or phrase that is not meant literally but by means of a vivid comparison expresses something about him, her, or it, e.g. saying that somebody is a snake
2. figurative language: all language that involves figures of speech or symbolism and does not literally represent real things

An aphorism is a short sharp clever saying about the truth. Modify: it is difficult to give an example as they are usually witty comments made at the time.
A metaphor is a term for a word or phrase used to describe someone, something or an action, but not using the literal context:
At the foot of the mountain
He has a heart of gold
He sleeps like a baby

Most the Nasrudin Hoja stories are full of metaphors....a metaphor is related to allegory
