Do non-practcing muslims still celebrate Ramazan???
I have sent a text message to a few friends in Turkia and realised afterwards that as they are non-practicing muslims it might not be appropriate :-S

I know non-practicing muslims, some will observe Ramadan and others think it gets in the way of business!!

My boyfriend is as secular/non-practicing as they come, when I asked him if he kept the fast, he said "of course, I must. Everyone does." So I think even non-practicing Muslims do.

İf you read in the essay section about Ramazan, you will find mostly all Turkish people fast, and many of them too if they don't even pray, they pray Bayram prayer.

My friend didn't fast during the ramazan, but he did enjoy the bayram!
I think it depends on the person!

Digging up an old 2006 thread but just because I want to ask on the topic. My part of Maryland is very diverse in culture. We have many citizens and organizations that are Muslim faith, including Turkish-American citizens. We also have places for the Iftar dinner that some groups meet at. Id be intersted in going to them to meet Turkish people and other learners to be social with, maybe make some good friends and practice Turkish.

However if I am not muslim, would I have needed to be invited to go? And if so I presume bad form to just show up and introduce myself? Its just been difficult to contact the local Turkish-American group and I am looking for other Turkish learners around here.
