You can find great free resources in the form of podcasts. If you don´t have iTunes on your computer, you can download it for free here:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Under podcasts you should be able to find multiple ones for learning English, a lot of them free of charge. For example, one that caught my attention was called American English Pronounciation Podcast from Seattle Learning Company.

No offence to any brits, because I do love your accent very much, but I find it difficult to understand at times. Not on TV, or in movies, but in person. And English is my first language. But it does sound lovely!!!
I would second (or third) the recomendation to watch American movies and try to immitate that accent. I mean, I can feign accents within English well enough, but I couldn´t really describe to someone how to speak American. Just listen and immitate, I suppose. Best of luck to you!

Your first language is English and you find it difficult to understand at times?
No offense to Scots. But how about Scottish accent? That should be more difficult then.
I heard that sometimes British movies are dubbed in USA to help the viewer understand the [script] better.

Because of the strong regional accents and regional variations on the English, some British people are very difficult to understand. I come for Norfolk but dont have a strong accent, but I find it hard to understand someone from the North (Geordie) or someone from Glasgow. Most others I am OK with. Some accents I can´t stand, Liverpudlian (from Liverpool) and a strong Essex accent.
ADMIN: I ALSO NOTICE THAT [script] HAS BRACKETS AROUND IT
