Quoting thehandsom

I suddenly remembered this very famous Turkish saying :

´sapik sapigi gorunce sapikligi azarmis´

At the sight of a ´sapýk´ a ´sapýk´ gets uncontrollably ´sapýky´ - something like that? (I just think ´sapýk´ is a much nicer word than ´pervert´ )

 Well - they do say it takes one to know one!  {#lang_emotions_razz}

I agree. My favourite indispensible Turkish words are:-

  • Salak
  • Sapik
  • Dimi

I simply cannot do without them now and use them in English conversations all the time

Silly names are to be encouraged, urges Christopher Howse

When Mr and Mrs Day presented their baby son for christening on December 27, 1762, at the octagonal 15th-century font of St Margaret´s church, Lowestoft, their reply to the rector´s formal invitation, "Name this Child", was to answer boldy, "Christmas". So Christmas Day he remained for life.

Whether the Days were cruel, or proud of their yuletide heir, they were not alone in their line of thought. The Holidays of Ampthill, Bedfordshire, called their son Christmas, too. He survived childhood ragging to marry in 1864.
