I feel I would like to reply to recent allegations that I am an "intolerant" "ignorant" racist.

I am very hurt by comments from Gavi and KeithL today and am debating whether to return to this site. Anyone who knows me well will know that I am a fervent believer in equal rights for ALL and have a deep respect for all religions - especially Islam.

However, I am also a feminist and have very strong views about sexism. To me, a child of 11 wearing a headscarf seems extreme and I commented on the fact. This does not make me anti-muslim or disrespectful, I was merely commenting on this one aspect of religious culture. I apologise if people found my comments offensive. I treat people in the way they treat me, and Gavi's very first response to me (and responses thereafter) were insulting and so my replies to her may have seemed harsh also.

I never called you rascist. Nor have I ever called anyone here that. I just dont know what the big deal of a girl wearing a headscarf is. Unless parents are endangering their children, I think we need to let them parent the best they can. Its a hard enough job as it is. I apologize if I hurt your feelings. That wasnt the intenet.

Sophie, I am not totally gone I am just tired of the useless offensive discussions that I used to join but now, living in another country which makes me both wonder about Turkey and Holland, I feel like I am the last one to comment on something. Having enough trouble to form an opinion about the way things are going in Turkey, reflecting them upon the way I was raised..
Once I get into university, some days will start to become monotone again and I think that at that day I will escape back to TC

Aenigma x, thanks for your compliment But now that English, which has always been my second language, has become my first language.. I see how much I dont know! It is amazing how hard it is to make a language your first one! But having more trouble with making Turkish my second one for just now
