Well... how the hell do you know if a crime is not recorded? What is the source of your statistics? Do your figures include marital rape?
In a culture where virginity is prized, it would be in a girl's long term interests to NOT report such a crime - so how do you know that the figure is even as low as 1 in 20?

0.001 per 1000 would still be too much.
In a country of 70 million (UK, NL or Turkey)that would still be 70 women whose lives are ruined each year.

well..I remember reading about those value years ago actually. But i am not sure I can find it online It is just an estimation in the end.
virginity might be prized, but in the end, turkey's population is shifting to big cities for one reason or another and in cities, the relationships are not hugely different than an european city. In coming years the importance of virginity will be less than today. And today the virginity is less important then 20 years ago.

I agree with you on that verse. There are worse verses as well :S
However islam in Turkey has always been different than the islam in countries like sauidi arabia, pakistan etc.
Islam in Turkey has always been a milder version of islam.
