Quoting Elisabeth:

Eggplants were a staple in my mothers/grandmothers home when I was growing up. They are Italians and use it in so many recipes but my favorite is grilled with a little butter and salt....ummmm

Hi Elisa

Are you deliberately ignoring the innuendo of this topic??

Surely your husband told you what patlican also means .... if not, guess from the picture and the previous 2 posts!!

I almost died after a month in Turkey during eggplant season. Argh!!! NO eggplant please! It makes my mouth, tounge all prickley...and I dare not imagine what it must do to my insides because it caused a LOT of problems.

A friend of mine told me that's a common problem and there is something that can be done to alleviate that problem in preparation. I just hope I never have to eat eggplant again.

The eggplant itchy mouthfeel syndrome!

It is said the sensitivity has something to do with plants in the nightshade family.

that's really interesting that you can get a problem from eating eggplants... maybe you need to prepare them differently? :-S

I never prepare eggplant. Why should I? They have always bothered my stomach for some reason or another.

It seems to be a syndrome not only I have. A friend of mine told me there is a way to prepare them, but it's not something I'm really interested in pursuing given my history with it. There are plenty of other things to eat.
