Loads of grammar, but in an easy way,a bit up to date with the Turkish vocabulary.
But,BOARİNGGGGGG stuff.
Boring texts, you won't be using most of them in daily life use when you are in Türkiye !

As a teacher, I used the first book in my class. The comlete set is not a perfect one, but the better one among other Turkish teaching books. There is student and workbook for each level. And each book has three audio casettes. In fact, the books doesn't include only grammar works as you said. There are reading texts, listening, speaking, writing, vokabulary improving parts and ofcourse grammar exercises.
Maybe the book you have is not the Student book but Work book. If it is so, you are right, it has only grammar exercises in it, and you will get bored of studying it.

I have this book and the 2nd one as well. I find it very good. Like Metehan said, there are 2 books for each level, plus a small one with the vocabulary used in each lesson.

The cassettes have a lousy music, lol, but they are very helpful. I think I have the contents of the fist book's tape, saved in my hard disk as mp3 files, for those who are interested.

İ didn't mean its include only grammar exercises,of course it includes all as you said, reading texts, listening, speaking, writing, vokabulary improving parts and grammar exercises.
İ was talking about the Main book, not the Çalışma book.

İ meant the texts topics are boring, not much useful for a foreigner language student.
As a foreigner student,i don't care in my early stage of learning about human and Technology,or environments,or about suspected person been caught in police station !
İ would much like to learn how to intereduce myself, how to buy things, how to book a ticket in bus,or train station, how to ask about streets directions, and so on.
İt contain some useful stuff too,but most are not that useful.
Maybe it can be a useful reading, but as someone trying to learn the langugae,i would like to read topics,or about stiuations i can be in it when i be in Türkiye, and can use too.

İ don't know,but its my opinion when i read topic i cann't use,and at same time,there are some topics that i should know,but i don't!

There is a book called Türkçe Öğreniyoruz,if you know about it,it contain a very useful topics but its very poor at Grammar topics, not like HİTİT,which i prefer it in grammar.
But the problem is Türkçe Öğreniyoruz is a very old book,so it contain some old vokabulary.
İ will try to listen to the casettes too,and thank you for drawing my attention to them, and will try to get the orta's casetts too.

i can't agree with you, canli!

i think hitit 1 gives enough vocabulary and knowledge to be able to tell a bit about yourself, your family and friends, to be able to ask for directions in the street, to do shopping.

though i think this book still lacks exercises making you speak. and it is important when you study on your own. of course if i were a teacher using this book, i would find many ways to make my students speak.

Yes rena,
To be able to tell BİT ,not much.
Or not as it should be,comparing to Türkçe Öğreniyoruz,it is very poor in this section.
İf there is a book combined those two books together,it would be really great book.
You just need to compare the texts to see the diffrences.

But there is something i must say,if you only would use,or go with one book,so i preffer HİTİT over Türkçe Öğreniyoruz.

HİTİT offers you good grammar, and a bit useful texts, and by some out reading, you can get what is lack there.

But Türkçe Öğreniyoruz,is poor at grammar, and for me,that is ery difficult to handle alone.

It lacks audio casettes, but I think it is a well prepared set of books. It includes two student books and a grammar book. I used this books in my class too, and my students liked them also.

As everybody knows that the best way learning any language is going to target country and to study the langage there. But if you can't do that, you can take a course in your home country. In every condition, you need a native teacher. This is the short way but not enough. At the same time with your study, you should do practice the language with native speakers. Self study is a long and hard way.
This is my opinion, as an experienced teacher.

Yes,the problem is the native speakers,we don't have many Turkish down here,
And even if we have,i don't know them,so it would be hard to practice with them :-S

At least, you can chat here(TLC) in Turkish, but I see that you do it mostly in English.

You know metehan2001,
İ guess you are right,if i kept being shy to use the words i know, thinking i will mess things up,then i will never learn.
İ guess i should try,and be corrected .
