Bayramınız kutlu olsun!

I'm not celebrating this year but to everyone who are, I hope you have a great day!

Mavy> See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurban_Bayram%C4%B1
Kurban Bayramı is the day(s) of celebration where a sheep or goat is sacrificed. Everybody visit oneanother and basically just have a good time.

Well me too Mavy. But these animals are eaten. They would have been killed for meat anyway. This festival does not increase the amount of meat eaten. I just hope they are killed quickly and painlessly. As muslims are not allowed to cause unnecessary pain and hurt to living things, I don't think there is much to worry about

Yes you're right, the animals suffer as little as possible. The throat is cut so the blood will run out quickly thus killing it very quickly. I've seen it with a cow once - one minute it was alive the next it was gone. Usually I can't take these things but it didn't look to suffer at all.

That's very good, animals also have feelings, and i know how the chickens are killed, they suffer very much

Which words do you use to say: Happy Bayram? only Mutlu Bayraminiz Kutlu Olsun?

You can say different things, here's the ones I can think of:
Iyi bayramlar (which is exactly happy bayram)
(Kurban) bayramınız kutlu olsun
(Kurban) bayramınız mübarek olsun
The two last are roughly may your bayram be blessed.

Does Kurban Bayram start today already or is it tomorrow?

Well, in case it alrady started, Kurban bayramınız kutlu olsun!

And one more question, do you say "bayramın" when you're talking to one person and "bayramınız", when it's more?

And of course! A happy new year to everyone!
