merhaba!
could you name some genuine Turkish brands and the "object of activity" they are refering to?

What exactly do you mean with that?
You can find loads of brands and images on Taste of Turkey but that "object of activity" is not clear to me..

I meant.... what that brand is famous for? (that is why I used the inverted commas)

Neyse, must be me and my peanut-sized-brain then..

Let's get this started:

Güllüoğlu is famous for its baklava.

Sütaş is well-known for dairy products.

Yeni Rakı is obviously famous for rakı (although I don't know if it's the best brand).

to be continued..

Ah and there is the brand Ülker that produces all kinds of things.
That reminds me: I've heard Ülker being called a "religious brand..". Can someone explain me why exactly?

You know, I was kind of expecting an answer from you, didn't expect that it would be so vague and saying less than nothing though. For your information: I'm not an imbecile
Anyway, drop it, I was just being honestly curious, nothing more, but since it comes down to religion again I was wrong to ask that kind of question.

Elisa, I didn't know what kind of answer you were expecting. However what else could it be as an answer to your question? Why do you think you were wrong to ask such a question?

If you don't mind, why were you kind of expecting an answer from me?

When you enter an electronic store in Europe, you should find some products of Beko. Check it out.

THE VESTEL GROUP OF COMPANIES (VESTEL) ENGAGES IN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, MANUFACTURING, SALES, AND MARKETING IN THE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS, WHITE GOODS, AND DIGITAL PRODUCTS SEGMENTS. VESTEL IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S BIGGEST ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS (OEM) AND ORIGINAL DESIGN MANUFACTURERS (ODM). IT IS ALSO EUROPE'S BIGGEST MANUFACTURER OF COLOR TELEVISIONS AND TURKEY'S BIGGEST MANUFACTURER OF DIGITAL PRODUCTS.

They recently announced that they've produced the most efficient fuel cells in the market:

Quote:

Vestel’s other fuel cell design is also revolutionary, both in the likely effect on global markets and in its choice of raw material. Similar in design to existing small fuel cells used to power low wattage electrical equipment, Vestel’s design is unique in that the hydrogen is supplied from sodium boron hydride, which Vestel claims it can produce as cheaply as US$30/tonne from Turkey’s abundant reserves of boron. Vestel says that the design is ideal for powering mobile phones and laptops, which could run continuously for up to two weeks before requiring recharging with a tiny capsules of the chemical “fuel”. So successful have been prototype trials that Vestel has been invited to demonstrate its designs to Intel, a major US chip manufacturer. The Turkish firm predicts that its first such fuel cells could be on the market by end-2006 costing a fraction of traditional batteries, and offering almost limitless cheap recharging.

Dear qdemir
A lot of owners of Turkish brands are most probably religious. That doesn't mean that they should profile themselves as being religious (which seemed to be the case for Ülker, even if it's only in insinuated terms..).
Hence, saying that the owner must be religious is too easy an explanation for me..

ps: I had a very close relationship with my Beko tumble dryer until it passed away

Ülker doesn't profile itself as being religious.
As for the explanation you have found easy; Ülker doesn't use some ingredients that are "haram" in İslam in its goods.

Are you quite well Aslan2?? Or just having a bad day? . The point Ramayan is making is that it was interesting to find Turkish brands for sale in the US. Perhaps you need a geography lesson if you don't know where Anchorage is! lol

Anyway, do tell me how such an innocent thread becomes so abusive and unnecessary? It is the sort of behaviour that you get an ASBO for in this country.............

ahhhh NOW that gives me an idea - Admin, introduce ASBO's to Turkish Class........ and before I get abuse as to what that 'effing' well means, Anti Social Behaviour Order

One of them or all of them? lol

Getting back to Turkish brands, unfortunatly Turkish electronics do not have a very good reputation in the UK, poor on quality, I believe Goodmans is made in Turkey, is it a Turkish brand name though? Or just manufactured under another brand............. now I could go on all day about brands but you will all find something else that is more important to do I am sure, like de-fluff your hairbrush or empty the rubbish.........

I suppose this whole discusion is already not up-to-date anymore but.. doesn't sound Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall rather English to you? Doesn't it ring a bell that Ramayan is trying to point out that he saw a Turkish brand in this mall which OBVIOUSLY has a foreign address, most likely US, could have been UK but less likely?

So its not even the point which country it exactly is, but more the fact that it was in a foreign one, which was obvious from its address.

I didnt understand why you needed to post such a rude, semi-smart answer. And I might wanna add that words like 'un-fucking-believeble' sound rather funny, especially when they are not used by a native.

Your contribution to this site in matter of language-explanations is great and from experience I can tell your explanations are clear and good, dont ruin that by posts like this.
