qdemir is right, you just started it.
robyn,if you not convinced by scarf, fine, its your own business.
But don't state words you don't know for sure.
You are talking about Qu'an here, and people are reading what you are saying.
You would carry on the responsibility infront of ALLAH of saying that scarf isn't written in Qur'an ?
Well, for about Millions of Muslims in the whole world,İT İS WRİTTEN in the Qur'an.
Otherwise,its your own opinion.
Would you really believe that all Muslims women in the whole world, wearing scarves for traditions reasons only ?!
All those women in the differnt countries ?
İn Asia,America,Europe,Türkiye,The İslamic countries, all those wear it for traditions ?
Must be a hell of tradition who is gathering all those women on 1 thing!
Or it would be more logical, what is gathering them an order form ALLAH ?
And me too, won't debate again ,who wants to know, there is Qur'an to read, and who cann't understand, there are Emams to ask !

I would just like to say one thing on this topic - it is impossible and inappropriate to have a debate about someone's belief or religion. I think you can debate many things, but to try to debate a religious belief on an open forum only causes offence. I learned this here
Why start it again?

İ was going out of here, lol
İ did this before robyn, but the Qur'an is in Arabic as you know, and the meaning is very obviouse in arabic.
What else do you want ALLAH to say more than saying,'tell the women to cover themselves till their pockets ' ?
Which was on the waist.
Nothing can be more cleare or obviouse than that.
Ask any Muslim, man or a woman, will tell you.
But ofcourse, the people who know religion, not the people who hear about it from a far.

Methodically and reasonably when you claim there is nothing such a thing you must have read Quran and its well-known interpretations (an interpretation is something different from a translation. I guess you must already know that) by interpreters like Elmalı Hamdi, and etc.

just because you believe your statements are fact does not mean this is not a debate. a debate is discussion involving opposing viewpoints so as soon as you responded, with an opposing statement, you made it a debate.

Quoting Elisabeth: I don't see the article as a debate on headscarves. Turkish women are free to wear or not wear one. I think it is more of a reflection of how older laws in Turkey are being challenged in the courts as Turkey moves toward more secular views. I don't really have a feeling one way or the other but it opens a very interesting discussion. The article is about a man who said something contrary to what Turkish law allows and how the court was infringing on his free speech to say what he believes. I don't know how much "free speech" is allowed in Turkey (I am not a Turkish Law expert) - but with cases like this, the struggle for a more secular society are highlighted. |
+1
i agree with you elisabeth. i don't see this article as a debate on whether headscarves should be worn, allowed, etc. it is about a woman who is going on trial in turkey for expressing her opinions because someone took offence to what she said.

A few years ago, on a TV channel the same person in the article - A 92-year-old retired archaeologist, Muazzez Ilmiye Cig, an expert on the ancient Sumerian civilization of Mesopotamia between the fourth and third millennia B.C.- claimed that all religions came from Sumerian civilization.
