Whoever don’t know Bülent or angel-frier (however you want to call him) must know that he is a big-hearted person and a great friend who has a lot of respect for others. Too bad to see all these comments about him from the ones who don’t know him. And, I want to add that I have meet my best turkish friend Bülent for eight months now, actually, he was the first friend I met here at TC, he offered his help and surely, he has helped me so much by teaching me Turkish never asking for nothing in return and the most important thing: always showing respect!!. We have built a nice friendship and I consider him my friend, my teacher and my confident. Due to his big heart, he has helped me in so many ways and never, believe me never offended me in any way. He has never tried to surpass our friendship. So, Melissa feel to accept his help anytime, he is a very good and patient teacher.
By the way, Bülent thank you so much for the beautiful postcard..You are such a great man!!! And never let others get you down…PLEASE!!

I only can agree with the post of Geniuda above. Bülent is a great man, he helps me very often with Turkish, is always interested in me and my life but never crosses the line (and there are many men I cannot say the same of!). He is concerned and when I do not react for a few days he immediately asks if I am okay. He has told me a lot about Turkey and it's culture, clearing things up for me.
Melissa, if Bülent wants to be your teacher: you can't have a better one.
All the sarcastic and unpleasant remarks above I think are childish - and that is an euphemism of what I really think of them.

teaching and translating are different things. you can translate something very well but it s not same with teaching a language. if it was easy there wouldnt be any teachers school. especially if you are teaching ur language to a foreigner it s more difficult because you have to speak his or her language very well. some friends think that our comments are childish but just respect to teachers it s not easy as you think. bülent can help ppl, we try to help too but we are not teacher. on TC there are some good teachers they show there teaching ability with their lessons like qdemir and erdinç (I havent seen him online for along time, I dont know why), I think they have proved theirselves and some other members I cant remember now.

True that there is a big difference between translating and teaching. But it is absolutely not necessary that you speak the language of your students to be a good teacher. I'm a language teacher for more than 10 years now, I teach my language to students (adults!) of more than 20 nationalities. Do you think I can speak all those languages fluently? In fact, speaking the language of your student is more a disadvantage than an advantage because there is the risk you stick with just translating instead of explaining. The best way of learning a language is what teachers call 'take a bath in it' - only that language and nothing else. It is also the most difficult way, especially when you do not live in the country of your chosen language.

Trudy, I completely aggree with your opinion about the method for teaching a language to foreigners. Even I can say, it is not an opinion but a rule in modern languge teaching techniques to use target language while you teach it in classroom or wherever. It seems to hard in the beginning specially for the new learners, but then this method makes the students learn faster. An experienced English teacher takes the teaching materials like 'Headway' with him/her and goes to different countries where he/she doesn't know the local language but teachs English perfectly. So, it is the same with all language teachers. In Turkey, The TÖMERS are the experts with Turkish language centers. If you go to that centers you will see that the teachers use only Turkish while their teaching and as we know, these language centers are very successful.
