Quoting Elisa:

Quoting SunFlowerSeed:

How to say that in English ?

Eşeğe altın semer de vursalar eşek gene eşektir.

I will try:

I can't find turkish definitions for "gene", is it related to genış?

I assumed "vursalar" is the conditional form of "vurmak", to to beat or whip. So then the whole quote goes:

A donkey with a gold saddle when you whip it (try to make it go, it is still a donkey.

longinotti1, 'gene' is a different saying of 'yine' which means 'again', and it is not related with 'geniş'.

My attemt,

"Putting a gold packsaddle on a donkey makes no difference, it will be still a donkey."
