Hi
I am travelling to Istanbul in a weeks time. Originally I was meeting a friend there, who is now unable to come. Is Istanbul safe for a woman to visit alone? My turkish friends are worried about me being there alone. I will be staying in a hotel about 4 km away from Sultanahmet area.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

istanbul has same crime problems every other city in every other country does,
so basically use your common sense and you'll be fine...

If yo are blond, some of Turkish guys will love you and some of them won't take no for an answer. Be spesific, don't try to be too nice

come on, I`ve heard this 1000000 before, but I seriously doubt it is true. I am blonde and treat people nice (at least, this is what I like to think of me , and I`ve been to Turkey (it is true, not alone, but still.....I do not think one has to take special/addtional safety measures
misen, just have your eyes, mind and heart wide open and....enjoy your trip

+1
When I went to Istanbul for the first time, I went on my own. I did stay in a youth hostel in Sultanahmet though. I wouldn't stay in that area anymore, but it was great for a first time visit. The big advantage of travelling on your own is that you get to talk to people more easily. I spent time with people I met, but I also did a lot of things on my own, and I never felt uneasy once.
No need to worry about things, just use your common sense and you'll be more than fine
