Dictionary definitions can be inadequate, especially for "icin". "Icin" is a postposition, meaning that it comes AFTER the word it modifies. It can connotate "for", "for the purpose of", or "because".
One example is a Advirtiisement for AKBANK. It fininishes with:
"T üriye Icin" (FOR TURKEY)
(Taking a chance with Turkish)
Seni geçtin icin, Biz çikdik. (or maybe)
Seni geç geldiginiz icin, Biz çikdik.
Because you were late, we left.

I'm not sure if için is the best word to use with the first one:
Çıktık, (çünkü) geç kaldın (2nd pers. sing.)
Second one:
(Sizin) geç kaldığınız için, (biz) çıktık. (2nd pers. pl.)
(Senin) geç kaldığın için, (biz) çıktık. (2st pers. sing.)

thanks for your explanation of icin.
but i find the english meaning of the sentence
"It's a good day to be alive" to mean...because of the day it's good to be alive or
and I find the sentence translated to turkish
"Hareketli olmak icin iyi bir gun" to change the meaning to...because of being alive it is a good day. haha
petty difference but a difference afterall

Translations almost always have such differences. I invited the others to suggest "Turkish" ways to express that thought. Especially, the various ways to say "life".
Thank you everyone! |
