Quoting MelekUK:

Some of you may know that I am a complete beginner of Turkish except to ask for a drink or a room with a balcony! I'm so eager to learn but I'm struggling forming the most basic of sentences...

Is there a general rule of thumb when forming a sentence i.e word order? I have read somewhere that it is

Subject - Object - Verb
I The Car Wash

You the book Read

Can anyone clear this up for me please? Thanks.

Hehe MelekUK
I am a complete beginner as well so I cn understand you very well. Luckily, turkish grammar isn't to fixed on rules so thi is better for anyone who wants to learn this great language.

It seems a good idea to write something yourself and have it corrected by these wonderful people on the forum.
Everybody here is cool and helpful.
Thanks to everyone for helping us...

Yes I would be completely lost without this site now! I can recognise certain turkish words but putting them all together to form a sentence has me stumped sometimes.

I think I need to sit myself down and just write...just random things! When you do not have any formal classes to attend, home study seems that much harder! So that will be my plan of action I think...at the end of the day I guess it's all about practice!

Yes. I think it's important that I learn Turkish. My partner speaks English quite well so it is only right I should try and speak his language. His family does not speak any english!
Usually I am very good at languages...I speak and write spanish very well but I am finding Turkish difficult.
