I've been using a few sites to try to learn the language, but it's hard when I don't actually use it in speech. I could use it when talking to a certain someone...just for practice. Yet, I'm self-conscious about it. The reason? I have this deep-seated fear of appearing unknowledgeable...like I have to be perfect and magically know everything. Lol! I know it's a foolish way of looking at things and I'll have to get over it someday.

Any suggestions from anyone?

Just speak when ever you can?
Though I understand fully, but then we can't help sounding strange at first can we????
I just started learning and haven't started speaking....good luck to the learners of new languages!

I know exactly how you feel. I don't even speak (unless its that certain person I'm comfortable with)because I'm afraid of making mistakes. One day I just have to let it out and if I make a mistake who cares! We have to make mistakes to learn.

When I first went to the US, I did not speak English at all. However, I picked up the language in 6 months by talking to my English tutors, taking English classes and staying with a two different home-stay American families..
My recommendation for you is to reserve a flight as soon as you can and come to Turkey to start practicing your Turkish skills..

You could also become a member of one of the Turkish-student organizations in your local area by E-Mailing them and participate in their weekly social activities...

cheers,

jenk

If you feel self-conscious, just remember how YOU feel when talking to someone who is learning your language. Do you laugh at them because they get things wrong?

Usually its incredibly endearing (and sexy ) when someone has taken the trouble to learn, even just a few words, of your language
