Well, IMHO some people may like to throw insults at each other, but many of us don't. I don't expect to be talked to rudely, and I try not to talk rudely to others.

I am astounded at the comments that some classmates receive when they send things for translation. I get many p.m.s asking for translation saying "I don't dare put this on the open forum as I will get losts of insults."

Sadly, Trudy is not the only person who has (or could have) made great contributions to the site but has given up because no one has to put up with being insulted. I know of two expats who have vast experience in Turkey who didn't stay in class longer than one week because of the antics of the small group who think they are smart insulting others.

Trudy, I loved your posts and your contributions. I hope you return.

How about a reverse coup? Those of us who are serious about learning Turkish (do you ever see the insulters able to answer a single question about Turkish language??? or an indepth issue about Turkish culture or history e.g. one that doesn't involve behaviour of waiters) will just start to trash the insulters, and tell them to go and spoil Gujurati Class or Mongolian Class instead.

Maybe then great contributors like Trudy will return .... until then, I don't think we deserve her.

I think you are a fantastic member of this site Marion and contribute so much. However, I had not realised we could only join in discussions as "worthy" members. I don't see the many "insults" posted here that you see.

Frankly I find sexist comments insulting and rude - but my protesting of them seems to be considered ruder!

If you can see that somebody is being duped or conned it is hard to stay neutral. In addition, I see none of these girls attempting to learn Turkish.

Well I certainly remember ONE of your expat friends - who managed to include/promote the name of your bookshop in just about every post. I think we commented on it but nobody insulted her.

I think we are getting a little ...uhm...out of topic here!!I am new in TC but I like it.It helps me a lot and I try to help other people who are worse in turkish than me.And there are poeple here who actually spend time from their lives voluntarily and help us,learners and I beleive one of them is marion too.Femme nobody said anything abt u being bad and all or abt others I think marion tried to say that some people here use this site for the wrong reasons.And as Alpha says,teasing is ok but courtesy is needed and maybe when some people tease here others those 'others" get insulted maybe.And I agree there are many girls-women-whatever who are desperaely in love and need translations and stuff and when in love they do tend to be too"askimsevgilimbitanemsin" but it's love and it's u know....well..it sux to have a relationship on the phone or on pc and if u can't help it it's even more difficult and love is blind..and yadda yadda yadda..Well I did propose to some people here to try and translate on their own and then ask for corrections,coz it's the only way to learn.And it is quite sad when people who DO contribute to this site suddenly leave coz every little bit of help is precious for us,beginners!

the second, you re new, and dont know that its usually me who people call rude or a haterad spreader and all that blah, blah, which i dont care at all. or even worse i cant live without those descriptions of mine! im

and did you think i got upset with marions comments about me? and were comforting me?

Mother Teresa's Anyway Poem
People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
[Reportedly inscribed on the wall of Mother Teresa's children's home in Calcutta, and attributed to her. However, an article in the New York Times has since reported (March 8, 2002) that the original version of this poem was written by Kent M. Keith.]

This is an insult! There are FAR MORE than this
I dont see your point though - we are not the ones complaining about them or hypocritically holding ourselves up as the paragons of tolerance and kindness to others

This whole idea of the love letter translations is very shady to me and it may sound brutal, but maybe it's better for some of those people to not get their translations..

But Marionin - there are all kinds of reasons why people are interested in Turkish culture and want to exchange ideas on this web site. They don't all have to be serious Turkish learners and have an in-depth knowledge about Turkey.
I of course agree that insulting others is wrong, but some people need to grow up a little and handle some healthy criticism instead of reacting with a tantrum.
Don't you think it's a bit of a double standard to say that it's not ok to insult Turkish language learners but it's ok to insult Mongolian language learners? I don't like this idea!

I get tons of PMs from young girls asking me for advice about their Turkish boyfriends....and quite honestly I am tired of it. In all the time I have been here I have seen the same thing happen over and over again, heard the same sms, then witnessed the same train wreck at the end of it all. It has made me very jaded and I think some of the other members too. Perhaps when you see my posts you should concider the fact that I have already received several PMs from the same people asking for advice.

I don't know why Trudy left but I concidered her a friend and I will miss her.

your comment made me laugh and brought back to Polish times.In one of Polish Upper Silesian cities there was a monument of Russian army soldier with a gun which looked like a guitar.somebody repainted it at night and wrote-For Jimmy Hendrix-a nation,all the city laughed and it became a legend.teenagers,including me had their dates in front of Jimmy Hendrix,haha..Thanx for recalling sweet adolescense days!!!
