I am wondering what candy/chocolates I wouldn't be able to find in Turkey, such as M&Ms? I am looking for uniquely American ones that one would not be able to get in Turkey.

Thanks!

As a notorious candy junkie, I can address this with some authority. In general, Turkish candy is excellent both in quality and variety and there is little available in the U.S. that does not have a Turkish equivalent.

M&Ms, say, are not found in Turkey but Bonibon Candy Beans are essentially the same thing. The only significant American candies without a precise Turkish counterpart are peanut butter cups and other peanut-based candies. In Turkey, hazelnuts (fındık)are used rather than peanuts in candies, making for a better product in my opinion.

I haven't seen fındık cups, so I guess you could bring peanut butter cups as a novelty. I wouldn't bother; they're not that good a candy.

When I come from the States and want to bring candy as gifts, I get Lindt Lindor truffles. These are among my favorite candies from any source and always seem to be appreciated. The Lindt website is at:

American "candy" is not good
You only have to compare a Hershey bar to any other chocolate bar to realise they are deeply deprived

Poor USA ya

(see even poor DaveT has been driven to bring european chocolates as presents from the "US")

It is tragic

Yes, us Americans are forced to spend top dollar for imported chocolate!! European chocolate has a totally different taste...so much creamier....richer...yummier...OK now I have to eat some....I have a stash in my office drawer!

I can't imagine WHY you would want to bring American candy to Turkey. Besides the fact it's not that good for you, Turkey makes fabulous candy.

As for M&Ms....

I personally love Godiva chocolate even though it's not American, it is very popular here in the states.

I would recommend Godiva and Reeces peanut butter cups. Which I believe is the best peanut butter I have ever had.

It's interesting here in the U.S. milk chocolate is the most consumed, however I prefer dark & white chocolate. It must be the European in me. I'm sure what ever you bring they will enjoy.

When I travel I usually bring a box of See's candy or something from a local chocolate maker, since I live in San Francisco my favorite is Rechiuti expensive but beautiful and delicious. Their fleur del sel caramels are out of this world

You also know from her that we have roaches in our candy factories, our healthcare sucks, we should give our land back to the Spanish, having classifications of ethinic groups are terrible and that J-LO is Mrs.USA.

I hope one day you can overlook these things Femme and come here. We promise not to serve you candy and if you get sick, will make a day trip to Mexico for prescrips.

I LOVE REESE's PEANUT BUTTER CUPS! Whoever said there was a better substitute is dead wrong.

You can't get Reese's Peanut Butter Cups...so if you love them like I do, stock up!!!

You can find some nice chocolate here. Ulker's products are ok. I actually prefer Argentine chocolate...Oh and See's Candy...I'm a Californian, love the stuff!

Pretty much anytype of candy that you want you can find here. I run into Hershey's bars, Twix, and the like frequently. So you won't be deprived!!!!
