My time is running out
It is two months today since I first started learning Türkçe.......but I only have another 6 months and two weeks before I return to Türkiye!!!
I really don't feel I am learning quickly enough and I am unsure what to do to try and get better at the language - any suggestions anyone???

I don't know if it's possible, but why don't you go to a language course?

- turkish tv
- compare translations
- post it notes with turkish words on!!
- talking on messenger with turkish people (really helps!!)
- get a turkish book to guide you through each stage
- keep studying, you are doing great!

That was my original plan.......
Both myself and my girlfriend (mumfitt on here) were going to go to a college to learn Türkçe - but there are no colleges locally that do language courses in Turkish The nearest one I have found is in Leeds which is about a 2 hour drive away :-S
So unfortunately, going on a course is not a practical option

Why don't you use the Winamp for this? Not many channels available but still enough to help you practice

Then it's a pity
Because when I think of myself, the best thing for me to learn a language is to go to a course where they guide me and motivate me. Otherwise, you have to be very planned. And I guess it's a bit hard to find turkish material.
You're in the beginner level, you just see turkish on the screen so I don't know if you know how to pronounce the words (maybe you know??), so you need to find a lot of audio material.

That is actually my biggest worry........
I spend lots of time looking at Türkçe and learning Türkçe but I hear very little of the language. I might end up being able to read and write but having no ability to speak or comprehend the language. This would not be very good as most of the real interaction I will have with native Turks will be spoken :-S
But I do listen to Turkish radio alot - in the hope that I will one day understand it.......

i've got the same problem, i can say the basics, but anything else i just seem to be learning nothing. There are no local language courses for Turkish and I'm off in April to start work for the summer!!!
I feel a bit of a failure!!

I'm sure that doesn't make you a failure.....
At least you have the advantage that you can say the basics and will be exposed to the language on a daily basis very soon - I am sure you will learn very quickly once you are there
