This anectode can be found in the website of Poland Embassy/Ankara.

In 1795 Austria, Russia and Prussia jointly shared Poland and erased this country from the map of Europe. The Ottoman Empire never accepted this fate for Poles.

The following routine became standard procedure in High Ottoman Court for the next 127 years: Whenever Sublime Porte had a meeting with foreign Embassadors, he would deliberately delay the kick-off, call his Grand Vezier and ask him (out loud) where the Polish delegation was. The Vezier, into the Sultan"s ear, but in a tone that everyone heard would say, "they are on their way, but may be a little delayed due to some minor problems". This ritual was repeated for 127 years, until Poland was resurrected after WWI.

The first European country ever to recognize the young Republic of Turkey, after Turkish War of Independence against the rest of Europe, was Republic of Poland.

Hahahah, how nice that you take special interest in Poland. lol
I'm just wondering - did the Ottomans not recognize the partition because they wanted to invade Europe themselves? (thank god that king Jan III Sobieski stopped them in Vienna in 1683, which broke the advance of the Ottoman Empire into Europe and marked the turning point in the 300-year struggle between the forces of the Central European kingdoms and the Ottomans).

Who cares by whom the Polish want to be invaded by? I wouldn't care less if Poland was a part of Germany or some other country.

I guess you Poles prefer this tone which bears no unnecessary special interest in Poland.

Mr. Alfred Bilinski (Ahmet Rustem Bey) was the first Ottoman Ambassador to United States, about the time Wilson was the US President.

I know nothing about this subject so therefore have nothing to say. Historically Brits love the Poles so I will continue that trend

Except, of course, that I secretly admire AlphaX
