From the linked article....
In August 2007 in the open seas of Zeytineli, in Urla district, İzmir about six illegal immigrants drowned when the boat they were traveling capsized and five bodies were not found.
In November 2007 in the open seas of Yeniköy Harbor, in Ezine district, Çanakkale a boat sank and about three immigrants died while 15 bodies were not recovered and three people were rescued.
I live less than 50 feet from the water. When I walk along the shore here (SF Bay), I'm always worried about finding a bodies. I have seen quite a few dead creatures. When you see a lot of seagulls, you know there is something there maybe you won't want to see.
One year we had two beached whales. The aroma was so bad, not even the seagulls would go near them.

Actually that was a mistake. It LOOKED like two beached whales on the satelite, but when they arrived there it was Femme and Catwoman sunbathing on the beach

It couldn't have been Femme and me because she kicked me out of that beach. She must have been with somebody else, maybe with you?

Perhaps it was both of femme's butt cheeks and not two people at all?

Uuuummmm....I'm quite sure it wasns't Fem or Catwoman...the two whales were on different beaches...and seeing as you find this interesting....here's more ...
You have no idea of the aroma a dead whale can produce A ton of rotting flesh....in the sun...
The problem of how to dispose of it, and whose responsibility it was became rather drawn out. Nobody wanting to go near them, or bear the expense of the operation. They were towed out into the Bay in the hopes that they would float out the Golden Gate. Didn't happen, they drifted back to shore
Finally a joint effort from different government agencies teamed up and towed the happless creatures out to the open sea beyond the Golden Gate.
In another incident, a munincipality use dinamite to blow a whale up....but the pieces fell all over the town... needless to say, stincking everything up.
exploding whale
There must be better ways....to deal with issues like this.

I quite agree and wonder what is causing them to beach? There are speculations:
Why sonar may harm whales and dolphins
