Quoting Elisabeth: Why is everyone so eager to accept "nice" gestures from strangers? There is such a thing as saying "no". Who cares if a total stranger is offended? People need to understand one thing....yes, the majority of people in the world are kind and decent. HOWEVER, there is the minority of people who are NOT nice. They do not where a badge saying..."beware....I am an asshole". So in order to protect yourself...it is ALWAYS wise to be guarded. I would rather offend a nice person than trust a bad one. |
I am the other way round, would rather take a chance and trust the fact that the vast majority of people are decent and just be aware that there are a few bad ones out there. You can't constantly live your life refusing people and saying no no no just incase they turn out to be bad news what fun would that be! Unless a person is totally stupid surely they must be able to tell when something is up.I would like to think so anyway.

Quoting AEnigma III: The thing is....if you are offered tea in a carpet shop, unless you are interested in purchasing a carpet and negotiating on it's price, why would you accept???? |

I will err on the side of caution thank you. You are free to do as you please, of course, but you must understand that my life experience dictates my attitude toward people. Maybe you have had a very rosy life and no bad experiences.....lets just say in my work I have seen a seedier side of life. Nice to know there are still people who feel this way Sera.

Of course,i was simply sharing my opinion not attempting to change yours. And i fully understand your point about life experience and how attitudes are formed. I agree and of course its only stands to reason that one will behave or respond to something in life drawing upon previous experiences they may have had, however that doesnt always have to mean just because one has had negative experiences that the next one is going to be negative. I am just a positive person thats all like to see the best in people. Its done me well so far.I am training to be a social worker and am hopeful that this attitude will be useful and hopefully beneficial to others in the future.Be positive people!

Oh Sera...talk to me after 10 years of being a social worker. I think you may feel a little different. I dont think the fairy dust has worn off yet. I am a very hopeful person but hope doesn't always reflect reality.

Thought you might say that some how.All i am saying is that there is nothing wrong with hope just as long as you have a firm grip on reality.
