Yes she is famous. I mean every person in their 30's would tell you her name when seeing her picture or hearing her song. Of course she isnt as popular as she used to be. Her best song I think is "kar taneleri".

Ok i will look for that as it is not on this CD I am sure I will buy CDs like crazy when i start to live in Türkiye.

Ispanyol meyhanesi is also a good one, especially the 'daha içelim' part

I know that you are a fan of Sezen Aksu. The following are her best albums. Very few albums in Turkish music history are comperable with any of these albums.

1978 serçe
1980 sevgilerimle
1981 ağlamak güzeldir
1982 firuze
1984 sen ağlama
1986 git
1988 sezen aksu 88
1989 sezen aksu söylüyor

Thank you for the album titles. I have an mp3-album that has many of her albums on it, I will look for those albums as i still didnt listen all of the songs. Right now Yalnizlik Senfonisi is my favourite.

I wonder how Turkish people experience her music.

I feel kinda lucky that I don't speak Turkish yet, I will enjoy her music in a much different way.
Only the music and the power in the voice itself can make me cry without knowing what she says. Once I will learn what she is saying, I can enjoy the same songs again with a new magical glow over them. And then i can also enjoy her new songs the way Turkish people do, unfortunately it's not really the style i like anymore.

Are there any other famous singers comparable to Sezens and Nilüfer's style?

How would you call Neset Ertas music and what kind of people mostly listen it? I'm listening it now, it really thrills me. His saz is crying for the feeligns that I am even uncapable to cry for, tho i wish i could.

Neşet Ertaş's music is Halk Müziği (Turkish Folk Music). Songs of Halk Müziği are not called 'şarkı' but they are called 'türkü'.

I would never dare to listen recent songs of Sezen. I'm well experienced on meeting ex-lovers again after many years. It is not a good experience. I'm very happy with her image in my mind as what she used to be.

Hmm i bought her Kardelen album (not that it's really a good one or an original one because of its target). I enjoyed listening it, but that was probably because we put it loud in the car while driving along the coast. Ohhh what a city. I'm afraid to go to Istanbul now.. Kadir sees istanbul as the heart of the world. Izmir already took my breath away.. how am i gonna get my oxygen in Istanbul?!

(im not sure if i mean oxygen, i dont know the english word for the stuff you breathe )

Recently I borrowed a Sezen Aksu CD, a release from the early 90's. I was disappointed really. :-s
But I'll definitely give the earlier stuff a try!

If you want i could send you of the albums Erdinç mentioned above.

Do you remember the name of the album you bought?

I also have 'Bahane' album, one of her newest.. I must say that Eskidendi çok eskiden is very good.
