Turks and Conspiracy Theories !!

Here is the problem, as I see it.
Yes, nearly one hundred years ago, in the age of Empire, when Britain still had an Empire, sadly we did often interfere with the politics of nation States. Lawrence of Arabia is a famous example of a British guy organising a local rebellion against the Ottomans.
The argument should not be about whether 1920 policies existed or did not exist. We freely agree that nearly 100 years ago this was UK government policy.
But in the last 100 years, we have slowly given independence to nearly all of the countries who were part of the Empire. UK is now no longer a nation of empire, and (for the most part) her policies are no longer those of an Empire builder.
The problem is Turks believe that the UK government is still trying to destabilise Turkey. Honestly, some people wonder whether I am being paid by MI5 etc to be a spy here.
Turkey is now a valued ally. Sadly she still often is suspicious of her allies and thinks we are trying to break her up.
Now, I have to mention the Iraq war: seen by many as proof of the conspiracy theories. My view: it is more about oil and staying in with the US in anti-terrorism than about wanting to break up Turkey.
In the whole Iraq situation a strong, independent Turkey is of more value to the UK than a weak, broken up Turkey.

The theory is that the U.S. wants to divide big countries in the Middle East to small states, which we started with Iraq. Turkey watch out! You maybe the next in our conspiracy. You are the gatway for exports of oil and natural gas from the Caspian Region & Iraq to Europe.

Quoting ciko: i disagree with you because.. i never think that biggest powers of the world stay silent and ineffective in any region of the world. and of course there are some connections between local historical events and those countries.. for example you cant say that USA did nothing in Ukraine elections a few years ago.. or domestic war between tribes in Ruanda... or PKK's being so strong finacially ....but i think to interfere other countries' politics is a necessity for big powers in this century.. i am very sure that if we were as powerful as america we would be exactly the same..Human is EVIL..
i agree with handsom about Turks love conspricay theory. we are the most naive nation in the world and we are never responsible for any bad thing in our country Education system is crap..easy! blame america ..because they dont want us to be intelligent. Health system is crap...easy..guilt belongs to west..they want all of us t die our politicians are very very good and they will do their best if the west let them do it ..poor turks we close parties are established democratically and voted by millions, we dont let people speak their language..we dont let people have education only because of what they wear...we kill journalists and dont find real killers at all...but yet we are democratic enough and EU just wants to divide our country by asking better democracy... |
You are wrong about the US and PKK, but otherwise - great post!

It seems that this kind of suspicion is necessary in order to keep the eyes on 'others' and not on your own problems. To divert attention from the things they do wrong themselves and from criticizing the government and army and for upkeeping the nationalism, in the name of which it's so easy to manipulate huge amounts of people, and to make people police each other. It's a VERY effective political manipulation tool
