To be honest I give them little chance, but maybe the 'second team' is better than the 'first injured team' And so far, Türkiye has always surprised the football world with their last-minute-victories, so please win again!

German and Turkish fans have been urged to celebrate their Euro 2008 semi-final meeting peacefully, the presidents of the two nation's football federations said in a joint statement issued on Wednesday. "There can be no place for violence and rioting despite the sporting rivalry on the playing field," said German football supremo Theo Zwanziger and his Turkish counterpart Hasan Dogan in the statement issued by the German federation DFB.

"We got along well even when our teams fight for 90 or 120 minutes with all they have and by fair means for a place in the Euro final."

Germany were due to play Turkey later Wednesday in the Euro semi- finals in Basle, Switzerland.

Hundreds of thousands of fans from both camps were expected to watch the match together in the various public viewing areas in Germany, with 500,000 people alone expected in Berlin's fan zone.

Turks form the biggest community of foreigners in Germany with around 2.2 million people.

Zwanziger and Dogan said they were happy about many calls for solidarity issued in the run-up to the match.

"We are happy to see all those cars with German and Turkish flags on their windows and about joint initiatives around the game in numerous German-Turkish areas. That's the way it should be.

"The fans as well should do their share to strengthen the traditional German-Turkish friendship," said the statement.

The way the Germans were playing.. like the commentators said, they seemed to just turn up and expect to win. The Turks had the ball most of the time.. and they were playing together alot better as a team.

Yes that - and the first time they wore red shirts :-S. Seemed like a bad omen from the start. It was a fantastic game though and Turkey should be very proud of their team!

If all their players had been fit it might have been a different story.

well turkey could win, cos the german played very bad...
though this result has been good for the present and close future of human beings... cos turks kill or injure whether they win or lose... (23 injured 3 murdered after the match with croatia, which they WON)

tonight when i was walking back home after the match about 15 turkish fans were lynching one person god knows for what reason...

i think it s been good for humanity that turkey has at last been eliminated, a very late conclusion though...

congratulations germany, but they also didnt play so good as to deserve this.

I understand there is often violence after football matches - this happens in the UK and many other countries - it just seemed like a lot of people injured and killed :-S

The armies of the Ottoman Empire could not conquer Vienna. Eleven soccer players from Turkey can.
That's the way many Turks feel, a heady, near-mystical sense that Turkey's underdog run to the European Championship semifinals involves more than goal scoring. To these fans, it's about pride and patriotism; ethnic identity and insecurity; centuries of conflict and coexistence; and the prickly, modern-day relationship between Turks and the West.

"There is an unwritten condition here in this country, the desire to show to the world what the Turks can do as a soft power," said Huseyin Bagci, a Turkish academic. "The Turks are bringing a new flair to Europe. It's like putting something spicy into food."

But it's not just us versus them. The team has showcased Turkish skill, tenacity and — even the most fanatic of fans grudgingly admit — mind-bending luck in comeback wins against the Swiss, Czechs and Croats.

Turkey's opponent in Basel, Switzerland, on Wednesday is Germany, home to nearly 3 million Turks, some of whom moved there as "gastarbeiter," or guest workers, for low-paying jobs in the 1960s. Two of Turkey's top players, Hamit Altintop and Hakan Balta, grew up in Germany, came through Germany's soccer system and play for Bundesliga teams.
