I don't know what Turkish mothers like so I will leave that to the Turkish users but good luck!
(personally-I don't like fake flowers)

Hi there,
How exciting !!!
I can remember meeting my future in-laws for the 1st time (that was over 3 years ago now).
I got her nice english sweets and chocolate and also local souvenirs from where I lived. She absolutely loved it. I'm am certain that she will love whatever you take for her.
Enjoy your time out there.
Best wishes
Jo

Go and look for some special cookies or chocolates from your country. Make sure they don't contain alcohol, gelatine or one of the E-marks that Muslims aren't allowed to eat, in case your bf's family is religious. For me it is easy, I can even bring Baileys and Whisky from the taxfree
But cookies, chocolates, sweets, that are special for your country, are generally very very welcome! They keep asking me to bring more 'stroopwafels' and Dutch cheese !

I don't see what is so hilarious on that. I know the majority may drink, but it REALLY depends on the family you are talking about. I know many people who drink alcohol but whose parents don't. It's better to be sure and it is nice to show your consideration anyhow.

Good advice DK-until you know the family and their views on alcohol. It just shows respect.

And I think it's not just for muslims, before buying something that consists of alcohol you should always consider the chance of the person not drinking alcohol, because not everyone likes alcohol! Like smoking!
