merhaba,

i know that the word gibi means as or like, but does it always have to come in the middle between the 2 things we´re comparing?? like the child is a s thin as a pencil? because i see it a lot gibi in the end if a sentence especially in songs and poems

No, it comes after the word what is alike.

Like x = x gibi

Like water = su gibi

ev gibi = lika a/the house

Only personal pronouns generally need possesive suffixes too;

benim gibi = like me

senin gibi = like you

onun gibi = like her/him/it

bizim gibi = like us

sizin gibi = like you (plural)

onlar gibi (onların gibi sounds odd to me) = like them

To say the child is as thin as a pencil: we use kadar not gibi.

(But in TUrkish it is more usual to say as thin as a crochet hook)

Çocuk tığ kadar ince.

As smart as me: Benim kadar akıllı

As fat as Ayşe: Ayşe kadar şişman

etc

because there is a -lar suffix. similarly

bizler gibi

sizler gibi

And they are not possessive suffixes but genitive. If you are not convinced, try to add -imiz or -iniz to them.

 doudi..

Like a river is ...nehir gibi

Time like a river

Zaman nehir gibi

Time flowing like a river

Zaman nehir gibi akıyor.

Beside sometimes they change the sentence order at the songs with the rhythm

im sorry canli but i dont get it :S

why dont we say time is like a river if gibi goes between 2 words zaman gibi nehir?

what youre saying is time like a river is zaman nehir gibi,

does that mean if we want to say house is like an elephant ev fil gibi or ev gibi fil? and since zaman nehir gibi akiyor means time flows like a river, does that mean if there isa verb it goes after gibi?

this is reaaaaaaaaaaaally confusing!!!! :S:S
