Many statesmen believe in that the states have no friends, but interests. That’s why the number of states which have ‘special relations’ is few. US-UK relations or US-Israel relations are exceptional. Even in these examples we see that the national interests are more important than the emotional dimension. In this framework Turkish-Pakistani relations have always been special. In spite of the geographical distance and the clear economic and social differences between two countries, Turks have always loved the Pakistanis. Although the Pakistanis are not Turkish origin people, they have always been called ‘brothers’ in Turkey. Brotherhood between these two countries was something emerged before the family ties between the Turkish Republics and Turkey to be bounded.

since when do we love Pakistanis?{#lang_emotions_confused} I have never heard such a thing before. Pakistan was among the countries that helped the Turks during the independence war, but so were Italy, Russia, and India.

Yes we do! For my part, I do! Yes their support for our independence is the main reason for me and I cannot compare it to Russian support. I don´t think that the Rusian people was so sad about us and they decided to give their golds for some support to us. That was what those people did for us!

It´s been considered like a brother country, because they have taken Turkey´s independence movement and war an example for their own independence. Ottoman Empire with its independence war has shown underdevelopped countries that being a colony is not a choice in order to survive and dignity is above everything. Pakistan has seen Turkey as a guide for their civilization. They have made their flag like ours, but I think one of the most important things that has won Turks´ admiration has been that unlike some arabs even if they were poor Pakis have given their money and golds to support Ottomans in their war time.

Diplomatic relations between Ottomans and the Indian Subcontinent Muslims began since 1627 and Ottoman Empire had always been a symbol and hope rof all Muslims livin in Indian Subcontinet under British control. They were always supporting Ottoman Empire by heart or by demonstrations during war days.Another case Subcontinental Muslims were interested was Abdulhamid´s  "Hijaaz Railway Project".Subcontinental Muslims established a foundation named "Central Commitee for Hijaaz Railway project" in Hydarabad  to help  Abdulhamid´s one of biggest dreams. They also sent a "Red Crescent Committee" during "Balkan Wars" in 1912.Today you can read subjects about those days in Pakistani school books.

Before 1947 there were no Pakistan so lets say Indian Muslims and there is realy a big big difference between Russian/Italian help and Indian Muslim´s help.

I think, we, Turks helped them during their independance struggle too..

I heard stories such as women gave their golden bracelets in Turkey for them.

And Pakistan is a place where you can say ´you are Turkish´ and all the doors open for you. (As a Turk, you feel like you are more priviledged than any other nation really. Definetely more than British )

They take Turkey as an example for many things. I listened many people talking to me about Ataturk and how Turkey and Ataturk were taught to them in schools.

There are many army officers exchange between two countries. I heard many pakistanies who visited Turkey saying that ´they felt as if they are home in Turkey´

Ooooo!  I am surprised you have not had a barrage of abuse for this one! {#lang_emotions_lol}  Turkey is part in Europe and mostly in Asia.  The split is at the Bosphorus which runs through Istanbul from the Marmara Sea to the Black Sea (or the other way - not sure which way the water flows!)

Hi, I am from Pakistan.  There is some background that might be useful for you to understand the issue.

First muslim dynasty of India, from 1250 to about 1500 AD was Turkish speaking.  They were central asian turks and people living in modern day afghanistan. Later, mughals (from dynasty of Taimur) become ruler of India. They were also Turkish speaking people. So for a long time, Turkish was the language of the court and most muslim officials of the court were from Turkish race.  Later in mughal era, Farsi (persian) became language of the court and remained so for about 3 centuries.

This leaves us with a lot of common vocabulary and customs. The name of language of muslims of India - Urdu - is itself from Turk origin.

Muslim rulers used to take the "Letter of Legitimacy" for their rule from the Muslim Caliph.  And as such, till end of Khilafat (caliphate), muslim rulers of India too that letter from Ottoman Caliph and Ottoman Caliph was considered the ultimate authority for Indian Muslim rulers.  As such, Ottomans and Turks were considered "one of us", and "brothers".

During Ottoman/Russian wars of 19th century, and then later Balkan wars, indian muslims supported Turks.  The first Urdu novel, Fasana Azad, written in first or second decade of 1800s, is about a muslim youth of india who goes to Turkey to fight with Ottoman armies against Russians.

During first world war, and then later Turkish war of independence, muslims of India physically, monetarily and politically supported Turks.  The unrest in India, "The Jewel of British  Crown", was so strong that british court had to promise to Indian muslims that they´ll protect Turkish state and Caliphate and won´t break it up.

And if I remember correctly, it was a time when Turks were fighting alone.  Arabs and other muslims have been fighting against Turks and were giving full support to British and Allied armies. So in my opinion, at that time when Turks lost almost whole country to the invaders, the support of Indian muslims gave them tremendous moral boost and valuable gold to buy weapons.  And Turks still remember their nearly only allies in that war that without any self interest helped them.

Pakistan is generally a very hospitable nation.  Even Americans are met with very good hospitality (unless off course they go to taliban area), but if you say you are a Turk, you immediately become a good friend if not part of family.

And so far, this has been my own experience with Turks as well. They like Pakistanis.

To be honest, our contact with Pakistan is quite limited. Compared with the presence of European and US citizens from thousands of kilometers away, Pakistan seems farther than it actually is.

In the aftermath of the 1980 coup d´Etat in Turkey, our de facto ruler General Evren established a very candid friendship with your general Ziya Ul Haq. Pakistan was the first country to recognize the junta regime in Turkey. I was a school child then. I remember listening to marches going like : "Pakistan, Pakistan jive Pakistan...". Though there was still not much physical contact, our two countries had converged though at the command of two junta leaders.

I have met one or two persons from Pakistan in all my life. One of them was a lady who for all intents and purposes looks, talks and acts like a Western woman (having studied and lived in Britain).

Symapthy and empathy are usually responded with similar feelings; just like rivalry and disdain. Even if I don´t know much about Pakistan, I am naturally inclined to love people who don´t defy me, ridicule me or try to teach me lessons that I don´t need.

I am glad to have +ve remarks from Turkish people here about Pakistan.

One thing I want to make clear that we have not made flag same to as Turkish Flag. We had a green flag with a crescent and a star in the centre since last 600 years (Saltan-e-Hindustan, Saltan-e-Mughlia, Dhali Saltanat). When we partially recovered our destiny in 1947 from Britain and Hindus of India, we just added a white small potion in our flag.

Firstly, the support they received from the Muslims of Old India during their fight to push back the occupiers of their territory during the dying era of Caliphate and its immediate aftermath. In this era, the Caliphate only remained in the 30 miles radius of Istanbul. The rest of Turkey was occupied by France, Britain, Russia, Georgia, Armenia and Greece. The Turks defeated and pushed these powers out, one by one and after having suffered tremendous atrocities at the hands of these occupiers. This was the time when they needed support and the Muslims of sub-continent sent money by ship loads, even women gave their gold ornaments liberally.

Secondly, Pakistan and Libya were the only two countries in the world that provided unqualified support to the Turks during their invasion of Cyprus to free the Muslims for Cypriot occupation. When the first casualties arrived on Turkish shores, these were treated by the doctors of Pakistan Army and the Turks saw this on national television. The Libyans gave them ship loads of ammunition they needed.

The third aspect which some of my Pakistani friends may scoff at is that their religious practices are exactly the same as most most Pakistani Sunnis practice. There is no difference at all and therefore the natural religious affinity.

Being a Brother country we Pakistanies love Turks all the ways!

We have Pak Turks Education system

                     we Have Turkish Foods Resturants.

We love to watch turkish culture, films and drams on our media

One Thing which is very unique we walk aroud Istanbul

At the end i must say here, distances never matter, races never matter, languages never matter.

its our love , respect and sincerity that make us close.

A little dedication to all the Turks by my side !

 "Stay Happy,Healthy and wealthy Turkiye"

                                                                     Long Live !

                                                                  Kind Regards !

It is so nice to read this Kashf. Unfortunately like button doesnt appear under your post. And one another reason to love Pakistan for me is your great poet Muhammed İqbal. Some call him the second Rumi. I read his works and liked a lot. I liked them so much, I wanted to share them with people. SO I gave them to university library. I guess it is time to buy them again from a bookshop

Merhaba Hazzel!

I don´t agree with this. its the nature of human being not only the Turks to like who serve them good. Its differ from person to person. In the same way i can say Americans are harsh in behave but i can´t, because natures varies from person to person. Its our own behave somtime that makes other good or bad.

Well!! Who says My country ´s leg is cut and Turks smell blood???  its your own assumption nothing else!

And yes! i would like to swim with such a beloved country Turkey!

Thank you gokuyum and si++  How much Pakistanies love to Turks you could judge it whenever you will visit our country. So many examples exist. But no one can erase the reality the " Turks live in the Pakistan heart".

Let me tell you the few of examples. For the welcome of Turk Mayor our many cities were fully decorated many days before. Every place of every road was welcomed with the mname of Turk mayor.

Flyers, pumhlits and Lcd´s were placed for this. And above little angles and people gathered all around the Pakistan.

On the occassion of metero bus launching ceremony. People all around the pakistan were there to celebrate this great event with Turkey.

Aslam o alikum

I am arslan from pakistan I don´t know much but i know one thing we are two heart and one soul. When ever i think about turkey tear just start coming in my eyes and i want to go there and hug every single turk i met and wanted to tell them we love you more than anything. And we shall be with turkey in any conditions. I can not tell you the reason of love for turkey. Because our love is not for any reason. It is a love without benifits and greed. Our women gave their gold jewelry to our turk brothers because we didn´t had anything else. And tillWe simply love each other without thinking about reasons and benifits. This is why we love each other. Long live pakistan turkey friendship.

I have just read through and see many mixed ideas. Lets not forget. When the Republic of Turkey was formed, Pakistan was the first country to recognize Turkey as a nation. This is priceless, does anyone else agree.
