I only have a Dutch and (I hope a choose the right one from the Turkish links on Google... ) a Turkish news article, but shortly said: the AKP wants to stop bikini wearing women in the street of Alanya.
Here the Turkish link plus first paragraph, maybe there is a member who can translate it?
Sokakta mayo ve bikini yasağı önerisi
Alanya Belediye Meclis Üyesi Hilmi Arıkan, turistlerin sokak ve alışveriş merkezlerinde mayo ve bikiniyle dolaşmasının yasaklanmasını istedi.
- Alanya Belediye Meclisinin eylül ayı olağan toplantısı yapıldı. İmar ve bütçe komisyon kararlarının oylamaya sunularak, kabul edildiği toplantının son bölümünde, Demokrat Partili Belediye Meclis Üyesi Hilmi Arıkan, sokakta ve alışveriş merkezlerinde plaj kıyafeti ile dolaşılmasının yasaklanmasını önerdi.

They just don´t want you to just wear a bikini when you´re shopping or walking on the streets (That doesn´t mean when you´re next to the beach). I agree with this, it´s kind of the same rule as not having dinner in just your swimming suit. I think it´s just rude and sometimes even disgusting!

Ok, it means no more fat men with a belly far over their swim suit as if they are 8 months pregnant in restaurants and bars? Sweaty, hairy and beach sand sticking everywhere? I support this idea!

Well, since my Turkish isn´t perfect I am not 100% sure, but it seems a strange decision not to allow people wear a bikini on the beach. I´m almost convinced that that´s not what it´s about.

Then also men without a shirt and pants should be forbidden from entering shops or restaurants!

Well - pants in the UK means something different to pants in the US so I definitely hope this will be the case!
Actually I hate to see women parading round the streets in beach gear or men walking around without shirts (also in restaurants and bars). And it´s always the ones who do it who would definitely look better covered up!

It says mayo and bikini. Mayo is used for ´bathing suit´ in general, but since it also states ´bikini´ I think we can assume that the mayo in this case refers to swimming trousers (so not only for women.)

The text says "sokakta", so I guess this prohibition refers to streets and not the beach, if that´s the case I´d support that, I don´t like people walking around the streets as if they were on the beach, it seems so tasteless to me.

I know your hate againt to AKP but you should be a bit more unprejudiced. Hilmi Arıkan is a member of Demokrap Parti (DP), which is not AKP. On the other hand, another mnicipal parliamenter who agrees this idea is from another party, ANAP, according to the news.
I know the third supporter is from AKP as well but when I read this;

I can feel your prejudgements. Why it can´t be a normal wish by any citizen? Why it needs to be bad? Why it can´t be normal?
Read the story, it says "people are disturbed by the dressings which are not suitable even for the beaches"
On the other hand, I agree with the men issue, they shouldn´t disturb people as well but this disturbance that story talks about is not the "view joy". These people are talking about moral values.

Thnx calip . I was hoping for something like this, I was also annoyed because it immediately seemed to be judged as something ´just against women´ which then would be related again to.. well you know no use to get into it all over again .

Don´t feel instantly so offended! The Dutch article I read said AKP, that´s why I used that name. Nothing more and nothing less. I did not say anything wrong about the party, that idea is in your head, Caliptrix.

There is a bit of follow up into Alanya and their ´bikini problem´
Some citizens asked the question to Mufti of Alanya ´if looking at a bikini wearing woman breaks the fasting´.
His answer was "No. But ´the deed coming from fasting´ will be less than normal"
He ´visely´ gave some examples and what todos:
´For example, you came across a naked person-I guess he means a woman with bikini- and you looked at her. First look is not sinful. You have to turn your eyes straight away. But after that if you are still looking, then the action will be considered as sinful´

Finally they are doing something to save the public from this pheneomina
I wonder if the see-through white pants that seem to be so popular by certain tourists will be included as well. Vacationing is no excuse to look tasteless and tacky.

Men´s underwear I call ´underpants´, ´boxers´ or ´Y fronts´ depending on the style. Ladies underwear I call ´knickers´ , ´Knicks´ or ´panties´ or there´s also ´thong´ and ´G string´.
I would use the term pants for trousers.
Of course ´pants´ has got an increasingly popular meaning. For instance, if I didn´t agree witha politicians policies I would say their policies were ´pants´. It can be used instead of ´useless´, ´garbage´, rubbish, c**p etc.
